Rio Burchielle, This Afternoon

  1. Wonderfully evocative! thank you for sharing your life in Venice with us here in the states. We live in a similar wetland delta area on the northeastern edge of San Pablo Bay, the northern half Francisco Bay that is similar to the laguna. But I feel much more at home when we visit Venice, so i much enjoy your photographs and commentary.

    1. Thank you. What a beautiful place to live, though, San Pablo Bay. Long ago, my grandparents lived for a time in Sausalito, and I used to work with someone who, after graduating from Cal Berkeley in the early 1960s, lived in a houseboat in Sausalito--when the area was still inexpensive (which is hard to imagine now).

  2. It's amazing, isn't it, how once you go to Venice, you feel you need to return... again, and again, and again. Went there first in about 2004, and feel that I must return at least a couple of times in any year.... but always in the coolest part of the year, so often see that misty background.

    1. The coolest, mistiest part of the year, as you well know, Ella, is perhaps the best time to be here, but it's a fact that should never be mentioned too much!
