Mazzorbo, This Evening

For information on the location in which this image was captured I refer you to a post by Justin Naylor on the website of his Old Tioga Farm. I've never eaten in the restaurant or osteria, and I know nothing about the lodgings or wine or anything else offered, but there's a good deal of information on this enterprise known as Venissa, both on its own website and in reviews that can be found through web searches.

All I know about it is what I discovered for the first time this evening: that it's a lovely spot.

End of the Workweek Dredgery, This Morning

An essential part of Venice's "ordinary maintenance" is, as you can see in the image above, dredging the canals of the mud--and other things--that accumulate in them.

I'd be extremely interested in a chemical analysis of the muck that is hauled up out of the rii, but I suspect the mere sight of the black oily sludge being brought up today would go a long way toward dissuading all but the dimmest (or drunkest) of tourists from indulging in a swim in the city's waterways.

Street Bellini

Spend enough time looking at the canvases of Giovanni Bellini and you start to find elements of his work--saints and the risen Christ, final accountings and sacred hearts--in fleeting juxtapositions of Venice's streets.
