Fearsome Sky Over the Grand Canal

Summer tempests sweep into the lagoon swiftly--and usually move on just as quickly. But if you find yourself in a small open boat on the lagoon in one, it's not very pleasant. Much nicer to watch the drama from someplace inside with a good view. (24 July 2017)

The Eye of the Storm, 24 June 2013

I've posted this image before, but I've never quite gotten the tones right--and I suspect I still haven't. But I like this waiter. The limited focal point isn't computer-generated, but a characteristic of the lens when shot at its widest aperture (Fujifilm 35mm f 1.4).

The Gold at the End of Rainbow

The rainbow ends, appropriately enough, in Ca' d'Oro, or the House of Gold: once so called because of the gold (and even more costly lapis lazuli) with which its facade was once adorned by its extravagantly wealthy owner. Of course, the gold on the facade was lost to the elements long long ago--but apparently not to the long memory of this rainbow. (15 May 2017)
