Prayers, Answered and Pending

Ex voto offerings inside a glass case in the church of San Zaccaria provide a static (and perhaps encouraging) backdrop for the flickering tokens of prayers more recently offered up

More tears are shed over answered prayers than over unanswered ones.

--St Teresa of Avila

The way through the world
Is more difficult to find than the way beyond it.

--Wallace Stevens

    1. Thank you, Freda, and I agree with you about candles, which are rather peculiar things if you find yourself fixating on them, the sense of profound stillness that can sometimes paradoxically arise from their slight flicker, as well as the way they can somehow seem to intensify one's sense of silence.
