Schoolward

With the beginning of the school year last week the amount of wheeled luggage clacking over the city's paving stones and clunking up and down its bridges--wheeled luggage of which there was already no shortage--has increased a bit more, as it's the preferred method of getting all one's school materials to and from school. With no cars outside the school to carry a child between (domestic) door and (scholastic) door, and with no school lockers within, such bags (and the sounds they make) are one of the distinctive features of Venetian childhood education.
