  1. Doggone it, I may have to face up to summer in Venice one year; there seem to be so many wonderful, down to earth things happening.

  2. I hear you, but I'm not entirely sure the really awful crowds and possible heat are worth suffering through for the sake of the feste... But in the meantime, when you are here on January 1 you can attend the annual Capodanno festa on Lido, with its traditional dish of lenticchie and musetto served communal style. Lenticche are associated with money here--I'm not sure about elsewhere--and eating this dish on Jan 1 is, I've been told, thought to assure good fortune (financially speaking) for the upcoming year.

  3. Oh, good! I've got a personal advisor for feste, in cooler weather! I don't mind eating lentils, if they'll bring good fortune (as well as regularity!!), but every translator I used for 'musetto' said I'd be eating a nose!! :-)

  4. I will have to learn of some other cool weather feste besides the obvious Carnevale then... As far as I know musetto has nothing to do with noses, but as it is actually a kind of sausage (mostly if not exclusively pork--I have to check this) I guess you never know.
