I like these "behind the scene" photos. They remind that Venice is a living city (albeit with a dwindling permanent population. AND we touristas would never get to see, thankyou. Anna
Thanks so much for your comment, Anna, I'm happy to learn that you liked the pics. I was beginning to get the impression that there were almost no fishermen left in the lagoon--and there really aren't too many--so to see the crab traps and then to happen upon this guy was a very pleasant surprise.
I've never rowed so far into the north lagoon as this; the best I can claim is that I know someone who recently did and he had the blisters to prove it.
I was lucky enough to be in a small outboard motorboat and to have the chance to spend some time on one of the little islands. It is quite peaceful, generally (if some neighbor isn't blasting a stereo), and seems to be an entirely different way of living than in Venice or even Burano--though many of the people with houses out there now seem to use the area as a weekend get-away, rather than a full-time residence with easy access to their work as fishermen on the lagoon.
I think it's always an unique moment to be there and I dream to take a boat already ! Once I can know that with a bragozo and I found that marvellous ! Sorry for my english
I am sorry that I cannot reply in French; I wish I could. I find it odd to realize that at one time--for many centuries--bragozzo and fisherman would have been so common in Venice as to pass almost unnoticed but now they have become so rare as to seem almost magical, dream-like.

DeleteThere you go again, teasing us with your lagoon posts. Did you row or were you in a small motor boat? It looks so peaceful!
