Historical Reflections, Rio Terà San Tomà, This Morning

The Rio Terà San Tomà, now apparently a calle like any number of others in Venice, was--as indicated by its very name--once a rio that was within the last couple of centuries filled in with earth (the "terà" part). But high acqua alta this morning returned the area alongside the Archivio de Stato to a shallow version of its former self.

  1. Masgical! So wonderful to get a glimpse of what it would have been like - mind you, we've got "Aqua very alta" over here in England at present in many areas - and not as nice here!

    1. If only the subsequent high water events had not exceeded the level shown in this image, Ella, which was already high enough, everyone in Venice would have had a much better week. Instead, we ended up with our own version of the not at all nice kind of experience you've recently had with water where you live.

  2. Your photos are fabulous, but this one is over the top. I look forward to each one, and wish I could get to Venice more often.

    1. Thank you very much, Anonymous--there's always something here to come across that you've never seen before (even if you've lived here full-time for 9 years).
