I can look at this picture and almost hear the quiet, if you can in fact hear quiet. No waves, no tourists and a lack of life of any kind. It almost looks like a picture that was taken in the middle of the night. Very peaceful and I even found myself humming a verse of Silent Night.
Your are more correct about the scene in the photo than you may have imagined: it was taken late in the evening, around midnight, when things were mostly very quiet--even around S. Marco.
