They're actually rather close to each other on foot, but it doesn't look that way on the map of the Grand Canal--and of course getting about on foot is exactly where most visitors find themselves lost in a maze, so that even points close together can seem impossibly distant. The removal of the Rialto Mercato stop threw a lot of visitors, I think, but the San Silvestro stop really isn't far away the same area, given the way the Grand Canal curves under the Rialto Bridge. Of course, most visitors wouldn't know that, and "Rialto" is a lot more familiar than "Silvestro." Steven Varni, aka Sig.
